The story of Coffee DRs’ BANTAT specialty coffee blend is more than a story about creating a delicious, aromatic and flavour-forward coffee blend. It’s more than a story about an award-winning coffee created and roasted by Luke Bantatua when he worked for The Coffee Roaster in Alexandria. And it’s more than a story about roasting and blending strengths and talents.

It’s a story about embracing the future of coffee.

The Future is Blended

You see at Coffee DRs we believe that blended coffees – those incredible, unique coffee brews that are only available from the creators that made them – are the future of coffee. Coffee blends are no longer the cheaper, leftover versions of their better single origin cousins that you know from off-the-shelf supermarket brands. Blended coffees made by master roasters and talented blenders are just as good, if not better than single origin versions because of the authenticity and originality that they represent.

A fantastic blend brings together all the best elements of a combination of beans. Using post-blending, each individual bean is roasted at its own ideal temperature and for its own ideal amount of time, and then blended together to achieve just the right flavour profile. At Coffee DRs we brew each bean variety separately in a process called ‘cupping’. We then taste and test, and taste and test again to find the right combination of each individual flavour arc to create a nuanced and absolutely superb flavour profile.

Utterly Original, Absolutely Unique

We see blended coffee like neat whiskey. Under-appreciated by the masses, but beloved (and tightly held) by those in the know. Because unlike single origin brews which can be replicated at any coffee shop as long as they source the right beans, blends are absolutely original, unique and unrepeatable. And when they’re created by a masterful blender, well-balanced, distinctive and incredibly, memorably delicious.

Our BANTAT Blend has been created and refined with the future of coffee in mind. It elevates the value that coffee can give a coffee lover every day. With an increased value of coffee, it also reminds coffee lovers of the complexity of the supply chain, and what it means to the roasters and farmers. With a flavour profile of sweet jammy fruit extracted from Ethiopian beans and a bold grapey wine from the Kenyan, you end up with something more than either. A rich and nuanced blend with tasting notes of crème brulee and fruitcake ending with a pleasant finish on the palate.
