Drip brewing: This is the most common way to make coffee. You drip hot water through a filter full of coffee grounds. The water is usually heated to around 92-96°C and then poured over the coffee. This lets the water get all the coffee flavour out. Drip coffee usually tastes lighter and cleaner.
French press: This is a manual way to make coffee. You put coarsely ground coffee in hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. Then you press the coffee through a filter to get rid of the grounds. French press coffee is usually richer and has more sediment and oils in it than drip coffee.
Espresso: This is a strong coffee made by forcing hot water through finely ground coffee under high pressure. Espresso has a thick, creamy texture and a strong, intense flavor. You can use espresso as the base for lots of other coffee drinks, like lattes and cappuccinos.
Pour-over: This is when you pour hot water over fresh coffee grounds that are in a filter above your cup or carafe. The water is usually heated to around 92-96°C and you pour it slowly over the coffee. This lets the coffee get all the flavor out. Pour-over coffee usually tastes lighter and more delicate than drip coffee, and has a really bright and clean taste.
Cold brew: This is when you steep coarsely ground coffee in cold water for a long time, usually 12-24 hours. Then you strain the coffee and serve it over ice. Cold brew coffee usually tastes smooth and rich, with a subtle sweetness and low acidity.
So, the brewing method can affect how your coffee tastes in loads of ways. It can make your coffee stronger or lighter, and it can affect the body, acidity, and aroma of your coffee. Different brewing methods can also bring out different flavours in your coffee, like fruity, nutty, or chocolatey flavours.
